The city
What is waiting in Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi is the capital and the largest emirate in the union, and its character is different from Dubai's: wider and quieter streets, a great deal of green along the Corniche, and museums of genuine international standing. Anyone who comes for only a few hours misses a large part of it.
Culture is the first reason to come: the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Louvre Abu Dhabi, Qasr Al Watan — the presidential palace — and teamLab Phenomena. Parks are the second: Yas Island has four large theme parks within minutes of each other, alongside the Formula 1 circuit. Beaches are the third: Saadiyat's shoreline is long and quiet, and suits anyone looking to rest.
There is also a practical reason. When Israeli carriers are not landing in Dubai, Etihad flies into Abu Dhabi's airport, and the trip can either begin there or continue straight on to Dubai.

A note about the Grand Mosque
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is a working place of worship as well as a landmark, and it has a dress code that is enforced: long trousers or a long skirt, covered shoulders, and a headscarf for women. Entry is free but requires a time slot.
It is at its most striking either early in the morning or in the hour around sunset, when the white marble takes the light. Both are also the least crowded times.
