★★★★ · Jumeirah & Umm Suqeim · Business
A 4-star city hotel on 2nd December Street, with 125 rooms and suites, a rooftop pool and a pub-style bar.
Jumeira Rotana is a city hotel of the Rotana chain, which the official website describes as a contemporary 4-star hotel. It is on 2nd December Street in the Al Satwa area, and has 125 rooms and suites. The hotel is meant for both business and leisure.
What sets it apart is the location between old and new Dubai. According to the official website, the Etihad Museum is 1 km away, La Mer Beach about 2 km, Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall about 4 km, and DXB Airport about 8 km. This is a hotel for trips by car or taxi, not for wandering on foot between the big attractions.
There are five room types. The 40-sqm Guest Room, with a king bed or two beds, suits a couple. Anyone who wants more space can choose the 73-sqm Spacious Studio with Balcony, or the 98-sqm One Bedroom Suite with Balcony, with a separate living area. There are also the Burj Khalifa Room (40 sqm) and the Burj Khalifa One Bedroom Suite with Balcony (98 sqm). All rooms are listed for up to 2 guests.
On the roof there is a temperature-controlled pool with a sun deck and a city view, and beside it a small children's pool. On the 5th floor is the Bodylines Fitness & Wellness Club, with a well-equipped gym and separate saunas and steam rooms for men and women. Spa treatments are provided by an external provider, for adults only, and there is no dedicated relaxation room.
There are two places to eat. The Boston Bar & Restaurant is a pub-style restaurant and bar with American and British dishes, open for lunch and dinner. The Pool Snack Bar on the roof serves salads, sandwiches, juices and drinks. Anyone who wants a wider choice will find it on the streets of Al Satwa.
The drawbacks: the nearest beach (La Mer) is about 2 km from the hotel, and there are only two places to eat. Room occupancy is up to 2 guests, so a family with children should check this in advance. The hotel suits couples and business travellers, and less those who want a beach near the hotel or a long family holiday inside the hotel.
