A roller coaster in Dubai that sits inside a mall: The Storm Coaster runs on the ground floor of Dubai Hills Mall, in the Dubai Hills district. It is an indoor coaster with several cars and inversions, and its track winds along the whole building. The experience is short, intense and made for anyone who wants adrenaline without stepping out into the heat.
The moment everyone talks about is the launch. The car stands still, then fires vertically upward, more than 50 metres into the building, using magnetic motors. In February 2022 Guinness recognised it as the coaster with the fastest vertical launch in the world, at a launch speed of 41 km/h. During the ride the train reaches about 77 km/h.
The track is about 670 metres long, and it runs between the steel and glass beams of the building, through turns, sharp drops and inversions. The coaster's theme is a storm: before you board there is an experience that pulls you into the world of storm chasers, with extreme weather footage and effects.
One ride lasts about two and a quarter minutes. You can choose a ticket for one ride, two or three, and people who love it usually take more than one. On site you can add a fast queue or a front row seat for an extra fee.
The Storm Coaster suits teenagers and adults, and tall children too. There is no age limit, but there is a minimum height of 1.30 metres. Anyone under 18 needs a consent form signed by a parent. It is a good attraction to combine with a visit to the mall, a meal or shopping, because everything is under the same air-conditioned roof.
What the visit looks like: you arrive at the entrance on the ground floor of the mall, show your voucher and ID, and leave your belongings in a locker. Anyone under 18 comes with a parent to sign the consent form. After the storm experience you board the car, and anyone with a multi-ride ticket can go again. There is free Wi-Fi on site, as there is throughout the mall.
Tip: arrive a few minutes before the time you booked, and leave every loose item in the lockers. Lockers on site are free, and you cannot board holding a phone or a bag.

When to go
The coaster runs every day of the week: Sunday to Thursday 10:00–23:00, and Friday and Saturday 10:00–24:00. Because it is inside an air-conditioned mall, you can come in any season and at any hour, even at the height of summer. Hours may change, and the exact time will be confirmed for you at the moment of booking.
Getting there
- The coaster is on the ground floor of Dubai Hills Mall, in the Dubai Hills district.
- The easiest way to arrive is by taxi or Careem, straight to the mall.
- If you drive, parking at the mall is free.
Good to know
- Minimum height: 1.30 metres. No age limit.
- Unusually tall people, or people with an unusually long upper body, may not fit in the seat.

- All loose items go into a locker. Lockers are free.
