About the hotel

Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort is a Thai-style resort on the eastern crescent of Palm Jumeirah. It has 293 rooms and villas in low-rise buildings, arranged around 3 swimming lagoons, plus another 128 apartments in a nearby building. The resort has 400 meters of private beach.

Two things set it apart. The first is the lagoons: they're open 24 hours, and in some rooms you can step straight from the balcony into the water. The second is the overwater villas, the first of their kind in the UAE. They have a glass floor panel through which you can see the fish beneath the villa.

Rooms range from 47–52 sqm. Premier rooms fit up to 3 adults, and Deluxe rooms fit up to 3 adults and a child. A family with 2 children would suit the Deluxe Family Lagoon Access Room (65 sqm), which has lagoon access and a separate floor for kids. Couples can choose Lotus rooms, located around an adults-only lagoon. The two-bedroom beach villa (206 sqm) suits a large family, with a private pool and beach access.

Kids have the Tuk-Tuk Kids' Club, and teens have a separate club, the Chill Teens' Club. There's a paddle court, a tennis court, and a water sports center with kayaks and SUP. The Anantara spa includes a Turkish and Moroccan hammam for men, women, and couples, 13 treatment rooms, and 6 couples' suites.

The standout restaurant is Mekong, with Thai cuisine, open evenings only. The Beach House serves Mediterranean food on the beach, Crescendo is the buffet restaurant, and Mai Bar is the pool bar, with a swim-up bar. Note: the Bushman's steakhouse is temporarily closed, and Mekong is closed on Tuesdays.

The main downside is the distance. It's about 45–50 minutes to DXB airport, and about 35 minutes to Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa. There's a free shuttle to nearby malls and attractions, but no free shuttle from the airport. One more thing: the villas are limited to 3 adults, so they suit a couple or a small family, not two couples together.
