A young urban hotel at a sensible price in the heart of Downtown: under 10 minutes' walk to Dubai Mall, rooms with Burj Khalifa views, and a laid-back 2 pm check-out.
Rove Downtown is the first hotel of the Rove chain, an Emaar venture that opened in May 2016 and changed the price picture in Downtown: 420 rooms within walking distance of Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall, without the gilded style of the area's hotels — and without their pricing. The design is young and urban, with local art on the walls, play corners in the public spaces and an upgraded-hostel vibe, backed by big-chain standards.
Location is the main reason to pick it. According to the hotel's website, Dubai Mall is under 10 minutes' walk away, Burj Khalifa is 0.8 km and the Dubai Fountain 0.9 km. Walk a little and you save a lot: the exact same district, at a fraction of the price of the hotels on the Boulevard. The metro takes a longer walk — Financial Centre station is 1.9 km — but within Downtown itself everything is close.
The rooms are built around one idea: 26 sqm used well. Every Rover Room has a king or double bed, a sofa bed that takes an extra guest or a child under 16, a mini fridge, a rain shower and a 48-inch smart TV. The difference between categories is the view: Burj View rooms face Burj Khalifa directly — the cheapest way in the city to wake up to the tower. There is also a Gamer Cave: a room with a full gaming PC, two monitors and Razer gear, for those who come to play.
The public spaces are part of the experience: a co-working area with free iMacs, foosball, table tennis and video games spread around the hotel, an outdoor saltwater pool with a Burj Khalifa view (8:00–20:00), a 24/7 gym and a self-service laundromat. Early arrivals can use it all before check-in, including changing facilities. The stay hours are unusually generous: check-in from 16:00, but check-out only at 14:00 — two hours later than usual.
Dining is simple and price-minded: the hotel restaurant is a TGI Fridays, which also serves the breakfast buffet (7:00–10:30, with pastries, fruit, cheeses and hot dishes). The lobby convenience store is open around the clock with Starbucks coffee. For more choice, hundreds of Downtown and mall restaurants are within walking distance. Alcohol is served in the restaurant from a limited menu.
The drawbacks are predictable for the price level: no beach, no spa, no kids' club, and the rooms don't fit a family with two children in one room — the solution is interconnecting rooms, which about 30% of the hotel's rooms support according to its website. Pets are not allowed. Anyone after pampering should pick another hotel; anyone coming to see Dubai, shop and go out gets the best-value location in Downtown.
